Captured

Tony, a good friend of mine from Winnipeg posted this picture on his blog and I feel stirred by this photograph.

So many lost, lonely, empty and utterly exhausted women+men who fill the benches we pass by everyday in the parks, at the bus/train stops, in front of the shops.

My heart asks of myself ...Will I be a smile, a word of encouragement; a gesture of kindness, comfort, hope or perhaps even courage?

Interested to hear your feelings, emotions and thoughts as you look at this image...

It's a pretty stark, despairing feeling in this pic. Grief, despair, hopelessness... These are definitely the things we encounter every day.

Sometimes I think that people really are "leading lives of quiet desperation", although in today's day and age it's more likely to be noisy desperation.

Love that picture Sheri! To stop and show just a little bit of compassion may seem and even feel awkward for us, however, it could be life changing for the person we made the time for. Will we choose to stop and be sensitive to those around us? Will we slow to consider that not always are the actions we see from people what we tend to assume they are a result of. The picture makes me think of these things.
